Context of feminine creation

A contemporary of female conductors such as Mexico's Alondra de la Parra and France's Arian Matiakh and Laurence Equilbey, she includes symphonic works by women in her concert programming.

Gražinytė-Tyla shares the fact that she is one of the first women to be appointed Music Director of major orchestras, such as Marin Alsop, who made history in 2007 by being the first woman to be appointed Music Director of a major American orchestra, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra

Other prominent contemporary female conductors are Alicia Farnham, founder and director of the Society of Women Conductors, which offers workshops for aspiring women, or the Canadian Barbara Hannigan, promoter of contemporary opera.
